 Farmers are reporting that the raise in eggs are not just due to the most recent Bird Flu Virus. The Bird Flu Virus is just one factor contributing to the higher prices of eggs. In reality, there are a variety of reasons for the increase in egg prices that farmers and consumers alike should be aware of.

With increasing demand for feed due to growing populations and competition from other industries such as biofuel production, the cost of chicken feed has spiked in recent years. This ultimately translates to higher production costs for farmers, which they then pass on to consumers through increased egg prices.

Price Gouging and Greedflation by the egg makers are also a reason egg prices are so high  . With limited competition in the industry, some egg producers have taken advantage of the situation and increased their prices beyond what is justified by production costs. This unethical practice has contributed to the inflated egg prices that consumers are seeing. The highest prices seen are over 8 dollars a dozen.

The scientific consensus is that both H5N1 and COVID-19 are naturally occurring pathogens that have crossed over from animals to humans.
